Nickel Cadmium batteries suffered from a charge memory. The new LIthium Ion batteries don't.

That is, if you recharge your battery before it is completely discharged you will not be able to charge it fully because the battery memorises the % of charge that it needs to fill it and it will fill to the same amount when you charge it again, instead of filling it completely.

In this way, the battery memory has the effect of reducing the capacity of your battery.

You can erase this memory by putting the battery in the freezer or make sure the battery is totally flat before you charge it.
